I tell myself the same things about new guitars and effects setups. It isn't disappointing exactly, because I already know, but there is a rueful smile when I remember I still have to play well in the first place.
So I've been thinking about re-stringing my acoustic and actually playing it after some years of closet life. I've gone as far as buying new strings for it and setting them next to my desk. But... the electric sparkle calls too alluringly.
Well, won't work literally. I need two hands for each.
The acoustic needs some work before it's playable. Simple things like strings and minor adjustments, cleaning. So, that's a negative. To go electric, everything is in order. I have an effects board, a decent fender tube amp, and an electric guitar. All ready to go.
The acoustic, even after doing some necessary maintenance, will play gorgeously and need to be handled precisely. I think the more basic an instrument is, it gets harder for me to make music with it. I can bring forth beauty from complexity, but creating sublimity from simplicity eludes me.
